Our Final Stop!

November 3, 2022

Our trip is coming to an end. We are at our final stop, Gettysburg and on Saturday we will head for home.

We spent several months studying the Civil War last year so we have really enjoyed exploring Gettysburg and seeing some of the exact places that we studied. We have also had the opportunity to see my brother, Rande, and his family who live close by! That has been the best part! 🙂

We started the week off at the Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center. We watched an excellent movie, narrated by Morgan Freeman, which gave the background on the Battle of Gettysburg. We also saw the Gettysburg Cyclorama which is a 42 feet wide by 377 feet long painting from 1884 depicting the decisive battle of Pickett’s Charge. It was truly remarkable! The museum also offered tons of artifacts and stories that helped tell the story of the Battle.

Yesterday we enjoyed the audio driving tour of the Battlefields with my sister-in-law, niece and nephew (Heidi, Emma, and Jonah). It was so neat to be out on the battlefields hearing the stories of the incredible battle and the men and women who were in the thick of it all.

We have also really enjoyed our campground. We have a beautiful site right on a river. The boys have loved playing  mini-golf, shuffleboard, football in the big field, and making reenactments of the battles with their army men. We also have visited some of the downtown shops and the delicious restaurant, the Gettysburger. This has been one of our favorite campgrounds!Â
