Brake Lights & Bug Bites

Tales from the Road

Maine

October 6, 2022

After arriving at our campground in Maine, I am sad to inform you that I am going to have to rename our blog to BROKEN brake lights and bug bites!!! Our back-in site wasn’t as kind to us as previous sites! The spot was a little tight with trees on every side! But, the good news is, it was just a broken brake light with no damage to the truck or the camper!

I am going to sound like a broken record, but Maine is gorgeous! I guess we just love all of New England! Our trip from New Hampshire to Maine was a longer one for us, 6 hours, but everything went smoothly, well, except for the backing in! We were all pretty tired and enjoyed some college football on TV after getting set up!

Maine is cold in October! After our first night, we decided to invest in some space heaters for the camper. We were all too cold to get out of bed on Sunday morning!!! Walmart is very close which is a nice treat after the last couple spots being over a half-hour away from groceries.

Once we finally warmed up a bit, we ventured to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. We drove around and got our bearings of the island, visited the welcome center, did an incredible hike and enjoyed dinner in Bar Harbor.

On Tuesday, we hiked the land bridge out to Bar Island. For 1.5 hours before and after low tide, a gravel sandbar is exposed as well as tons of little tide pools. We loved walking through the tide pools looking for little creatures. We did another hike in the National forest and visited several of the shops downtown, including an ice cream shop that served the most gigantic ice cream sandwiches you have ever seen!

Today, we ventured over to the Schoodic Peninsula which is another part of Acadia National Park. It is a much more secluded area with far less visitors. The views are amazing. At the tip of the Peninsula is Schoodic Point, a rocky coast with waves that pound against the rocks. The boys loved standing on the edge of the rocks seeing if they could outrun the waves! You can probably guess, they ended up wet!  We also saw several Harbor Seals! The boys also earned their Acadia junior ranger badges.

We love Maine and look forward to a few more days here. Tomorrow we head out for a whale watching tour! We will let you know what we see! 🙂Â
