Tales from the Road

The Finger Lakes

September 14, 2022

On Saturday, we moved to our next campground, The Finger Lakes RV Resort in Hector, New York. It is a beautiful location surrounded by vineyards, Seneca Lake and Watkins Glen State Park. The RV park just opened in May so it is brand new! The spots are very spacious and we got a pull-through spot this time which makes arriving much easier! We did have some trouble leveling our rig when we arrived. We finally got ahold of the company that makes our self-leveling system and they walked us through how to manually level the rig. They are suspecting that a sensor is off. We will keep you updated!

It has been a rainy, dreary couple of days. The rain started Saturday night and pretty much continued through yesterday morning. The sun finally came out and we were able to explore the area. The rainy days were good. It slowed us down, forced us to rest a little, get more settled, and focus on figuring out our school routine while in the camper. It is a little challenging figuring out school with everyone in a small space and Ken working in the front bedroom. It was also challenging because we couldn’t get outside to play or stretch because of the rain. We are learning as we go!

Yesterday, when the rain finally did break, we went out and experienced some of the surrounding area. Right up the street from us is a U Pick Grapes vineyard! That was so fun! We even came home with some of Ken’s favorites, Concord Grapes! Then we stopped and explored a local waterfall, Hector Falls. This area is known for its many gorges and waterfalls! We found a local creamery that makes its own ice cream! The ice cream was amazing! We also visited a few of the local downtown shops. We are excited to get out and see some of the other beautiful hikes, gorges, and waterfalls in the area!

We ended our evening around the campfire with a book and smores! A perfect ending!Â
